Word provides the Microsoft Clip Art Gallery containing numerous images.  Each image has its own filename.  More images can be downloaded from the Microsoft Web Site on the Internet.

Once an image is placed in the Word document, it may need to be moved and/or resized.

To move or resize clip art, you must select it.  Selecting it will place a box (small squares) around the image.  To select, simply place the mouse pointer in the center of the image and click one time.

Clip art is easily moved to the left margin, right margin, or centered horizontally by using the alignment buttons on the toolbar. 

Resizing an image can be accomplished in two ways—resizing with the mouse or from the format menu.

Resizing with the mouse:

Once selected, small squares will appear around the image.  The squares are called handles.  To resize using the handles, you will place the mouse pointer over one of the corner handles.  When the pointer changes to a double-headed arrow, hold down the left mouse button and drag the handle toward the center of the image to make it smaller or away from the image to make it larger.  Remember to choose a corner handle and to move the mouse pointer diagonally into the center or away from the center in order to keep the image proportionally sized.

Format menu:

The image can also be resized using the format menu.  Select the image.  Click Format on the Menu Bar.  Click Picture from the drop-down menu.  (If you forget to select the image, Picture will not be on the drop-down menu!)  A dialog box appears showing several tabs across the top.  Click the Size tab.  In the Size dialog box, you have a choice of keying in a specific height and width or choosing a percentage to scale the image.

Note:  In the Format Picture dialog box, you can

ð        Choose colors and lines to place behind and around the image (Colors and Lines)

ð        Choose the position on the document to place the image (Position)

ð        Choose the way you want text to appear with the image (Wrapping)
